Winter Olympics 2010/ Snowboard Team Web Coverage

Jun 29, 2009 Author Admin

Olympics LogoHave you had a chance to check out the official 2010 Winter Olympics web site and the info about the US Snowboard Team?   It has pretty robust content and beautiful photography.  There is video too, but it’s annoying that the videos aren’t cross-posted on YouTube but rather live on Bing due to NBC’s partnership with MSN.

I like how they’ve integrated athlete Tweets and leveraged lots of video from past Olympic games.

Be sure to check out these features in the Snowboarding section of the site:

  • Slideshow of the 2010 US Snowboard Team
  • “Tweet Sheet” – a live feed of tweets from Olympic athletes who use Twitter
  • Snowboarding Basics – Background on the different snowboarding events, from halfpipe to Boardercross
  • “Model Olympians” – OK there are quite a few hotties in our chosen sport – check out these great photo shoots from stars such as Shaun White, Gretchen Bleiler, and Seth Wescott

Well done NBC!

Ollie post

Jun 28, 2009 Author Admin

Today was the first Thursday where we did not go into the backcountry. With the warm temps and rain yesterday, things were looking a bit on the crappy side as far as powder goes. Oh well, it was a good day to stay in bounds and goof around. Neither Cole nor I can ollie very well, but that didn’t stop us from trying. There is this flat spot at the top of the mountain that is on a hump. Most skiers and snowboarders never go up there cause its a little bit of a hike but the groomers pass through and its always buffed. There is a nice mellow incline for riding flatground and big long manuals. We built a little bump and practiced ollieing off it. I guess you could call it the snow version of a jump ramp.

A snowmobile came by and I got a tow into this snow mound.

We are planning a Snowskater cross for the 11th of April. It will be loads of fun and I’ll be posting more on it as the time gets closer. Also I’m just finishing up the last batch of boards for the season. I’ve got a bit of everything, FPS completes 151 and 152 and three of the new Morning wood’s as well as unmounted finished decks. I’ll post up a full list with prices first of the week… heck I might even put it on the Product page, wouldn’t that be nice?

Teaching kids to absorb bumps

Jun 26, 2009 Author Admin

Depending on the child’s level of development they may move as a unit or be able to move their legs independent from their upper body.

Practice getting small and tall while standing still. See if the kids can stay centered as they move.

Skiing bumps is like riding a roller coaster. You want to go up and down without getting out of control or tossed around.

Let’s start with the warm-up coaster (no kiddie coasters please). Find some gentle bumps and traverse. Get small as you get to the top and get tall on the way down.

Next it’s time for a big coaster, so let’s go over 2-3 bumps and then turn on the top of the next bumps. Don’t forget to say whee?

Get ready, it’s eXtreme coaster time. Turn on top of every bump. Look for bigger bumps to go over. When you go on bigger bumps get small and tall in slow motion.
